The Parent Carer Research Network Guide for Researchers has been co-created between the network team, parents and carers from our lived experience Steering Group, and researchers.
This guide forms the basis of becoming a partner with the network and will be used to review all research opportunities shared with the network team.
There might be some ideas you haven’t yet thought about for your project. Don’t be daunted! The guide is here to help you make your project as inclusive and accessible as possible, to help
- parents and carers feel safe, valued, and have their needs met
- your research team reach a more diverse range of parents and carers, build more meaningful relationships with participants, and ultimately have a greater impact on children and young people’s mental health.
You are always welcome to get in touch with our team if would like further support developing your project: parentcarerresearchnetwork@psych.ox.ac.uk
The Guide for Researchers includes:
- A checklist summary with key reminders of everything you need to consider
- What do you need to think about before you start working with parents and carers?
- What do you need to think about while you are running your opportunity?
- What do you need to think about after working with parents and carers?

Share your feedback and ideas for future resources
Did you find the guide useful? Any questions? Do you have any suggestions for improvements or is there something missing?
We are really open to feedback, comments and ideas – and are aiming to update this pack on an ongoing basis. Please let us know your thoughts by emailing the team at: parentcarerresearchnetwork@psych.ox.ac.uk
We are hoping to develop additional resources to support researchers (including videos, case studies and feedback forms). What else would you or other researchers find beneficial? We would love to work with you to create and develop further resources. Please let us know if you would like to get involved or have any ideas you would like to share.
